This piece is inspired by Maya, a jaguar who is a resident at the Big Cat Sanctuary in Kent (UK). She was featured in a BBC series (Big Cats About the House), where her upbringing was closely documented as she battled ill health to make it to adulthood. Now she is an ambassador for her species, raising awareness for necessary conservation projects. This organisation does a huge amount of conservation, education, breeding and rescue work for a huge number of wild cats.
